GSEP’s Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) for Sustainable Electricity Development Program was officially launched in Warsaw, Poland during the COP19 in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) International PPP Center of Excellence.
The program’s objective is to create a forum that will empower decision-makers in developing and transition economies to define the best strategies and practices for the successful implementation of PPPs in the sustainable electricity sector.
This program is one of several concrete commitments the major electricity companies made in support of UN Secretary General Ban Ki- Moon’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative.
Top leaders from international organizations such as the International Finance Corporation, World Energy Council, and The Energy and Resources Institute have already endorsed this program. The potential for strong PPP development exists in many developing and transition economies, and by joining efforts with these organizations and by creating a strong network of experts with lessons learned from implemented projects, this program can have a real impact in helping create a bottom-up approach to sustainable electricity development.
