Asia - Joint TERI-GSEP Regional Workshop on Strengthening PPPs for Sustainable Electricity and Energy Efficiency
The first Asia regional workshop on PPPs in New Delhi, India was organized in partnership with TERI, The Energy & Resources Institute, from November 27-28, 2014. In line with the objectives of GSEP’s program, this dialogue offered a platform to seek expert views and discuss best practices and concrete ways to promote effective PPP for sustainable electricity and energy efficiency projects in the region.
Dr. Leena Srivastava, Vice Chancellor of TERI University and Honorary Executive Director of TERI opened the conference, together with distinguished guests such as Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the Government of India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency. Over 80 high-level representatives from energy ministries, policy makers, energy regulators, development banks, public and private utilities, and sustainable electricity/energy efficiency sector experts from 10 countries attended this workshop. At the proceedings, it was highlighted that when implemented well, PPPs can effectively promote successful investments in renewable projects, low carbon-emitting energy projects, energy efficiency and grid modernization programs, while also enhancing the scale up of access to sustainable energy and fostering significant economic growth and carbon emissions reduction in countries.
